About the Role:
The City of Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality is seeking a diligent and experienced Driver Operator to join our Community Services Department. This permanent position is central to the maintenance and operational support of the city’s key recreational and sports infrastructure, including turf grass areas, stadia, and hard courts. The successful candidate will ensure the efficient transportation of personnel and equipment, uphold vehicle and machinery standards, and contribute to the pristine presentation and functionality of public facilities. This role demands a professional with a strong sense of responsibility, excellent practical skills, and a commitment to safety and service excellence.
Minimum Requirements:
· Education: Grade 11.
· Licence: A valid Code C1 driver’s licence with a valid Professional Driving Permit (PrDP).
· Experience: At least two (2) years of relevant experience in a similar operations or logistics environment.
· Skills: Basic computer literacy is required.
Key Performance Areas and Core Responsibilities:
· Transportation and Logistics: Safely and efficiently transport staff, tools, and equipment to various work sites across the municipality.
· Vehicle and Equipment Stewardship: Conduct routine inspections, perform basic maintenance, and ensure the overall roadworthiness and operational readiness of assigned vehicles and turf maintenance equipment. This includes arranging for formal servicing and reporting major defects.
· Compliance and Administration: Accurately complete and manage all necessary documentation, including vehicle log sheets, trip records, and pre-use inspection checklists to ensure compliance with municipal and transport regulations.
· Safety and Regulations: Strictly adhere to and promote all Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act requirements, municipal safety policies, and national road traffic regulations.
· Team Supervision: Provide direct supervision and task allocation to ground staff, ensuring work is carried out effectively, efficiently, and safely.
· Operational Support: Perform minor repairs and preventative maintenance on turf grass, stadia, and hard court equipment to minimise operational downtime.
· Service Delivery: Maintain a professional, customer-focused approach when interacting with colleagues, other departments, and the public.
