We believe in cultivating human potential through every stage of the school day, creating safe, engaging, and nurturing spaces where young minds continue to grow. At Pinnacle College Raslouw Preparatory, we are looking for more than an Aftercare Assistant; we seek a dedicated Childhood Guide to play a vital role in the most important part of our students’ day: the hours dedicated to relaxation, social growth, and continued learning.

This position is the heartbeat of our afternoon campus life. It is designed for an individual who understands that a child’s educational journey is holistic, blending academic support with emotional care, social development, and joyful play. If you possess a genuine passion for nurturing young children, find energy in their curiosity, and believe in the profound impact of patient guidance, your application is warmly welcomed.

The Role: Shaping Afternoon Experiences

As an Aftercare Assistant at our Preparatory School, you will be entrusted with the well-being and positive engagement of our students during the crucial after-school period. Your presence will provide continuity, comfort, and structure, ensuring children feel secure and valued outside formal lesson time. You will be a key figure in translating the school’s values of care and excellence into everyday afternoon interactions.

Core Responsibilities: A Holistic Approach to Aftercare

Your daily contributions will be diverse, meaningful, and central to our school community:

Supervision & Daily Routine Management:

· Lunchtime Leadership: Oversee the lunch routine with a focus on promoting healthy eating habits, good manners, and a calm, social atmosphere. This includes the organized serving of meals and the efficient clearing and tidying of dining spaces, teaching responsibility and respect for shared environments.
· Aftercare Engagement: Provide dedicated supervision within the aftercare setting, ensuring a safe, structured, and supportive environment. Your role involves actively facilitating a balance between guided activities, free play, and necessary rest periods, tailored to the energy and needs of the children.

Academic & Developmental Support:

· Homework Guidance: Offer patient, encouraging assistance with homework assignments. Your support will help reinforce daily learning, foster independent problem-solving skills, and build student confidence, acting as a vital bridge between school and home.

Communication & Community Connection:

· Building Trustful Relationships: Utilize strong oral communication skills to build positive, respectful rapport with both pupils and their parents. You will serve as a reliable point of contact at pickup times, providing clear, concise, and reassuring updates on the child’s afternoon.
· Collaborative Teamwork: Function as an integral member of our broader educational support team, working in harmony with teachers, administrative staff, and other assistants to ensure a unified and consistent approach to every child’s welfare.

The Ideal Candidate: Attributes We Value

We are looking for a special individual whose qualifications are matched by their character and approach:

Essential Personal Competencies:

· A Nurturing Heart: The innate ability to love, nurture, and genuinely connect with young children. This is the non-negotiable foundation of the role.
· Dynamic Energy: An enthusiastic and energetic demeanor that can positively influence a group of children, transforming routine afternoons into engaging experiences.
· Relational Intelligence: A proven ability to relate well to young children, understanding their developmental stages, emotional needs, and social dynamics with empathy and patience.
· Clear Communicator: Excellent verbal communication skills, capable of interacting effectively with children at their level and providing professional, friendly communication to parents and colleagues.
· Collaborative Spirit: A natural team player who understands that creating the best environment for children is a collective effort, requiring cooperation, flexibility, and a positive attitude.

Required Qualifications & Experience:

· Education: A minimum of a Matric certificate or its equivalent is required.
· Experience: Candidates must have a minimum of 3 years of direct, hands-on experience in a similar role. This could include previous work as an aftercare assistant, teacher’s aide, preschool assistant, au pair, or in any structured environment focused on the care and supervision of primary school-aged children. This experience is crucial for demonstrating proven capability in managing groups, understanding child safety protocols, and supporting developmental activities.

Why Become Part of Our Pinnacle College Family?

· Purposeful Impact: Experience the daily reward of making a tangible difference in children’s lives, contributing to their sense of security, happiness, and social development.
· Professional Environment: Work within the structured, supportive, and well-resourced framework of ADvTECH, the leader in private education.
