Position Overview
We are currently seeking a diligent and dedicated General Assistant to join our Tsebo Catering division, operating within a healthcare environment in the West Rand, Johannesburg. This permanent role is critical in maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene within the facility. The successful candidate will be instrumental in performing day-to-day housekeeping and scullery services, ensuring a pristine, safe, and attractive environment that complies with stringent health and statutory regulations. This position demands a professional who takes pride in practical, methodical work and understands the vital role that impeccable cleanliness plays in a healthcare setting.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The General Assistant will be entrusted with a range of essential tasks to uphold our contractual and quality standards. Primary responsibilities include ensuring full compliance with both company and statutory regulations pertaining to cleanliness in all assigned duties. A central focus of the role is maintaining the scullery area, which involves the meticulous cleaning, sanitising, and storage of all crockery, cutlery, glassware, and kitchen utensils to meet our rigorous hygiene benchmarks. The incumbent will manage the timely removal of refuse from the scullery and other designated areas to prevent contamination.
Further duties encompass the cleaning of food preparation equipment, kitchen floors, walls, and windows. The role also involves the cleaning and disinfection of laundry, toilet, and bathroom fixtures. Specific attention must be paid to cleaning fridges within walk-in cold rooms. The individual will ensure the outside and rear areas of the store remain clean, tidy, and inviting, strictly adhering to health regulations. Operational safety is paramount; therefore, the correct placement of safety signs during cleaning activities is required, and no cleaning agents are to be left in public areas. As part of our team-oriented approach, the General Assistant may be required to provide support in other unit areas during less busy periods and attend to all reasonable requests from management, demonstrating flexibility and a cooperative spirit.

Individuals must be demonstrably trustworthy, reliable, and exhibit a strong motivation for performing their duties to the highest standard. A keen attention to detail is non-negotiable for this role. Candidates should enjoy hands-on, systematic work and possess good hand-eye coordination to work both quickly and safely. Excellent personal hygiene is essential, and individuals must be free from skin allergies to common foods and detergents. Minimum Qualifications and Experience
Applicants are required to have a Matric certificate. Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience working as a General Assistant or in a similar support role within a hospital or healthcare facility. This experience ensures familiarity with the unique cleanliness protocols and sensitive nature of such environments.
