About the Role:
The City of Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality seeks diligent and physically fit General Workers to join our Community Services Department. This permanent entry-level position is fundamental to maintaining the city’s sports and recreational infrastructure, including turf grass fields, stadiums, and hard courts. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring these public facilities are clean, safe, functional, and well-presented. This hands-on role is ideal for a reliable individual who takes pride in contributing to community spaces and is committed to supporting municipal service delivery.
Minimum Requirements:
· Education: Grade 10 or equivalent ABET certificate.
· Skills: Basic ability to read and write.
· Attributes: Physical fitness to perform manual labour, a good understanding of general cleaning and maintenance practices, and a willingness to follow instructions and safety protocols.
Key Performance Areas and Core Responsibilities:
· Cleaning and Hygiene: Perform comprehensive cleaning of assigned facilities, including offices, change rooms, spectator stands, hard courts, and surrounding areas. Duties include sweeping, mopping, dusting, waste removal, and sanitizing surfaces.
· Basic Maintenance and Handiwork: Assist with minor repairs and routine maintenance tasks, such as replacing light bulbs, tightening fittings, basic painting, and reporting major faults to a supervisor.
· Equipment and Material Handling: Use, clean, and store municipal tools, equipment, and cleaning materials correctly and responsibly to ensure longevity and prevent wastage.
· Safety Compliance: Strictly adhere to all Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations. Wear provided personal protective equipment (PPE), identify and report potential hazards, and contribute to a safe working environment.
· Operational Support: Set up and break down venue furniture for events and meetings. Assist with the movement of materials and equipment within the facility grounds as directed.
· Customer Service: Interact professionally and courteously with colleagues, supervisors, and members of the public, upholding the Batho Pele principles of service delivery.
· Teamwork: Work effectively as part of a team to complete daily tasks and meet departmental objectives.
