Career Opportunity: Merchandiser
Employer: Dis-Chem Pharmacies Limited
Location: Bedford Store, Johannesburg, Gauteng
Job Type: Permanent
Closing Date: 03 February 2026
Division: Retail
About the Role
Dis-Chem Pharmacies, a leader in South Africa’s retail pharmacy sector, is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Merchandiser to join the team at our Bedford store in Gauteng. This position is central to the retail operation, serving as the critical link between inventory management and the customer experience. A Merchandiser at Dis-Chem is more than a stock handler; you are a brand ambassador, a customer service point of contact, and a key player in ensuring our stores are vibrant, well-organised, and inviting. Your work directly influences sales performance, operational efficiency, and, most importantly, customer satisfaction by ensuring the right products are available, visible, and appealing at all times.
Key Responsibilities
Your role will encompass a dynamic range of tasks focused on stock integrity, visual merchandising, and customer engagement. You will be entrusted with the following core responsibilities:
· Inventory Management & Replenishment: Proactively restock merchandise to maximise sales potential, ensuring delivered stock or items pulled from the storeroom are stored and placed on the correct shelf space promptly and accurately.
· Stock Quality Control: Maintain rigorous standards by ensuring the full product range is represented on shelves, facilitating regular stock rotation on a First-In-First-Out (FIFO) basis, and vigilantly checking for sell-by dates to remove expired items.
· Merchandising Excellence: Adhere strictly to Dis-Chem’s operating standards, store layouts, and planograms. You will build, maintain, and refresh merchandising displays, ensuring all products are neatly presented, correctly labelled, and priced. This includes maintaining the daily physical upkeep of the store and your designated stock areas.
· Reporting & Communication: Act as the eyes on the shop floor by reporting low stock levels, out-of-stock items, damaged goods, and price discrepancies to management. Your observations are vital for inventory planning and loss prevention.
· Operational Support: Assist with critical store functions including loading and offloading stock, back shopping (returning unpurchased items to shelves), general stocktaking, and ensuring packaging waste is properly managed.
· Customer Service: Provide friendly, helpful, and courteous assistance to all customers. You will resolve product queries and diligently follow up on customer out-of-stock requests, turning a potential negative into a positive service interaction.
· Team Contribution: Assist in the training of new staff members, share product knowledge, and uphold a cooperative team environment. You will minimise losses by handling all merchandise with care and adhering to all company policies, SOPs, and health and safety regulations.
