Detailed Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Driver and Messenger Support Services: Operating official vehicles to collect and distribute mail, confidential correspondence, and official parcels between the Magistrate’s Office, other courts, government departments, and service providers.
  2. Document Collection and Delivery: Specifically tasked with collecting official documents, court records, and exhibits from relevant government institutions such as the South African Police Service, the Department of Home Affairs, or other court jurisdictions.
  3. Staff Transportation: Safely transporting officials to meetings, training sessions, conferences, and other work-related destinations as officially required and authorised.
  4. Mail and Registry Support: Assisting with the sorting, recording, and distribution of incoming and outgoing mail within the office, ensuring all items are accounted for and reach the correct recipients promptly.
  5. Basic Administrative Support: Providing ancillary clerical support, which may include photocopying, filing, and delivering documents internally between different office sections.
  6. Vehicle Care: Conducting basic checks on the assigned vehicle, reporting any faults or damages, and ensuring the vehicle is kept clean and presentable.

Minimum Requirements for Application

Candidates will be considered only if they meet the following non-negotiable criteria:

· Educational Qualification: A minimum of a Grade 10 certificate or an Adult Basic Education and Training (ABET) qualification at Level 4.
· Driver’s Licence: A valid, unendorsed code B driver’s licence (for a light motor vehicle). Previous driving experience will be a distinct advantage.
· Technical Skill: Basic computer literacy is required to manage electronic waybills, log collections and deliveries, and communicate via email if necessary.
· Interpersonal Skills: Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with colleagues, officials, and members of the public from diverse backgrounds.
· Personal Attributes: Demonstrated sound interpersonal relations, a cooperative spirit for teamwork, reliability, honesty, and a high degree of trustworthiness given the sensitive nature of documents handled.

Terms of Employment

This is a permanent position within the public service. The appointed candidate will be required to:

· Sign an annual performance agreement.
· Adhere to all departmental policies, procedures, and the Public Service Code of Conduct.
· Undergo security clearance and vetting processes as required for the role.

Remuneration and Benefits

The position is graded at Salary Level 4, with a total annual remuneration package ranging from R193,359 to R227,766. This package is inclusive of benefits as per the Public Service Coordinating Bargaining Council (PSCBC) resolutions. Benefits associated with permanent employment in the public sector may also apply, subject to departmental policies.
