Job Advert Summary
Clover, a leading FMCG powerhouse, in proud partnership with the national Youth Employment Service (YES) programme, is excited to announce 35 transformative learnership opportunities for ambitious, unemployed South African youth. This 12-month industrial learnership is designed to bridge the gap between education and meaningful employment, providing critical hands-on experience within our core operational departments: Production, Primary Transport, and Secondary Distribution. Based at various Clover branches nationally, this programme embodies our commitment to being “Better for the Benefit of All” by investing directly in the future of South Africa’s workforce. Successful candidates will gain immersive exposure to sophisticated warehouse management systems, logistics coordination, and production support environments, building a robust foundation for a career in the fast-moving consumer goods, logistics, and supply chain sectors.
Programme Requirements: Who Should Apply?
Clover seeks passionate South African youth who meet the following YES programme and role-specific criteria: Applicants must be South African citizens aged between 18 and 33 years old. A minimum requirement of a Grade 12 or National Senior Certificate is mandatory. Candidates must be currently unemployed and must not have previously participated in a formal learnership programme with any other organisation. We are looking for individuals who are ready to learn, contribute, and grow within a dynamic industrial setting.
Key Competencies and Personal Attributes
Ideal candidates will demonstrate a proactive and action-oriented mindset, taking initiative without constant direction. A strong sense of ethics, acting with honesty and consistency in all tasks, is fundamental. The ability to collaborate effectively with others to achieve common operational objectives is crucial in our team-based environments. We value interpersonal effectiveness, showing respect and building positive relationships with colleagues and supervisors. A visible commitment to the programme and personal motivation to excel are essential. This role requires effective verbal and written communication skills. A customer-oriented approach, understanding the importance of internal and external service, is key. Candidates must show a basic ability to plan and organize their daily tasks. Foundational administrative capabilities for accurate data handling are required. A results-driven attitude, focusing on completing tasks efficiently and correctly, is important. The role demands maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and housekeeping in all activities.
Duties and Responsibilities
The YES Learner will be immersed in comprehensive operational duties across the logistics and production value chain. Central to the role is managing stock accurately according to the Warehouse Management System (WMS) protocols. This includes controlling stock in holding areas, meticulously receiving and dispatching stock, and re-supplying stock on the system during the receiving process. Learners will be responsible for locating stock within the warehouse and overseeing the movement, re-packing, and maintenance of optimal stock levels in designated locations, with a key focus on preventing shrinkages and losses during these processes. A significant duty involves assisting in the maintenance of the warehouse system, ensuring it is updated with new products or discontinued lines, and verifying stock is correctly located. This extends to practical tasks like linking and setting up scanners and comparing weigh-bridge statistics against claims.
Operational excellence is a cornerstone, requiring the learner to perform rigorous housekeeping, adhering to strict safety and security regulations, and ensuring these standards are understood by peers. Contributing to warehouse productivity involves assisting in the allocation of resources for picking operations to ensure full utilization of personnel and optimizing the use of picking cages to minimize idling time. Administrative responsibilities are integral and will include capturing truck and driver documentation, inputting data for satellite and interbranch reports, checking and controlling printed invoices, and following up on operational queries. Learners will assist in printing invoices and load sheets post-picking, reporting deviations in truck arrival times, and supporting the closing of routes on the ERMS (Enterprise Resource Management System).
For learners placed in supporting roles, duties will include receiving, storing, and issuing stock parts within engineering stores. This involves receiving part orders into the system, placing them in their correct physical location, and assisting with stock counts, cycle counts, and returns to suppliers. Providing support to the Stock Controller at Head Office may be required. Ensuring all paperwork for stock orders is complete and sent for capture is critical. All activities must ensure the assigned area consistently adheres to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) standards, while also ensuring the security, impeccable housekeeping, and safety of all stock in the store. Similar meticulous processes apply to the handling of direct parts, including completing requisitions, receiving orders into the system, storing parts in controlled areas, and issuing them to artisans following strict procedural protocols.
The Clover YES Programme Experience
This learnership is more than a temporary position; it is a curated 12-month journey into the heart of South Africa’s FMCG industry. Learners will be integrated into real-world operational teams, gaining exposure to industry-best practices in logistics, inventory control, and distribution. The programme is structured to provide not just work experience but mentorship and skill development that enhances employability. By working across our national branches, successful youth will understand the scale and complexity of a national supply chain, making them valuable assets in the job market upon completion. Clover is dedicated to creating pathways for youth development, and this programme is a tangible investment in building a skilled, experienced, and motivated generation of industrial professionals. We call on eligible, enthusiastic, and diligent young South Africans to seize this chance to launch a substantive career with a beloved and enduring national brand.
